There are two plan options to meet different needs. Refer to this chart for a listing of benefits and covered percentages.

Dental Provider Organization (DPO)
The AARP Dental Insurance Plan gives you the freedom to choose any licensed dentist and change dentists at any time without notifying Delta Dental. The DPO Plan includes more than 67,000 dentist locations nationwide. You will maximize your benefits when visiting a DPO dentist, as they are a select group of Delta Dental dentists who agree to provide treatment to DPO patients at reduced fees. Since these fees have been prenegotiated by Delta Dental, your out-of-pocket expenses will likely be lower.

When visiting a DPO dentist, you don't have to pay the entire bill and wait for reimbursement from Delta Dental. Instead, we pay our portion directly to your dentist. We send you a notice explaining your part of the bill, and you pay the dentist only that amount. DPO dentists also handle all claims and paperwork for you.

To find a DPO dentist in your area, you may call our Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-866-583-2085 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time. We can provide you with information regarding a dentist's membership status, specialty and office location. Or, use our online directory to find a DPO dentist.

Free choice of dentists

We recognize that many factors affect your choice of dentist and therefore we support your freedom to choose your dentist, which assures that you will have access to the dental treatment you need.

In addition, you and your family members can visit different dentists.

Remember, you enjoy the greatest benefits—including out-of-pocket savings—when you choose a DPO dentist. However, you are also free to visit a Delta Dental Premier or a Non-Contracting dentist.

Your dentist may refer you to another dentist for a consultation or specialized treatment, or you may elect to see a specialist on your own. If this is done, be sure that the dentist you are referred to is a DPO or a Delta Dental dentist. You can do this by simply asking the specialist when making an appointment. Visiting a dentist who has agreed to participate in the Delta Dental program can save you money, time and paperwork. Remember, if the dentist is a Non-Contracting dentist, you must pay all of the treatment cost at the time of service and submit a claim to Delta Dental for reimbursement.

Find a dentist

There are two ways in which you can locate a Delta Dental dentist near you:

  • Use the online dentist directory. DPO dentists are listed in our national dentist directory as "Delta Dental PPO" dentists. Remember, if you wish to receive maximum benefits, be sure to select Delta Dental PPO.

  • You may also call our Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-866-583-2085 and one of our customer service representatives will assist you. He/she can provide you with information regarding a dentist's membership status, specialty and office location.
